Part 1 of 3: How to Cook Perfect Rice | Ingredient Selection and Preparation

Rice is a staple in many households, but it can be tricky to cook perfectly every time. Fear not, with a few simple tips and the right tools from Two Pillars, you'll be a rice-cooking pro in no time!

First things first, selecting the right type of rice is key. Long-grain rice is the most commonly used variety and is great for dishes like pilafs and stir-fries. Basmati rice is known for its fragrant aroma and is perfect for Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine. Jasmine rice, with its floral aroma, is ideal for Thai dishes.

Before cooking your rice, it's important to rinse it thoroughly to remove excess starch. Simply place the rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear. This will prevent the rice from becoming sticky and clumpy.

Now, let's talk about the cooking process. The ratio of rice to water is important to get the perfect texture. A general rule of thumb is 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water. However, depending on the type of rice and your desired texture, you may need to adjust the ratio slightly.

Using a pot with a tight-fitting lid is also important to trap steam and cook the rice evenly. Our UniLid® is the perfect eco-friendly replacement for plastic wrap and fits all shapes and sizes, making it ideal for your rice-cooking needs.

When it comes to cooking, bring the water to a boil before adding the rice. Once the rice is added, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with the lid. Resist the temptation to peek or stir the rice, as this can release steam and lead to uneven cooking.

Once the rice is done cooking, fluff it with a fork and let it sit covered for a few minutes before serving. And for those times when you have leftovers, our Duo Cover® is perfect for reheating rice in the microwave while keeping it moist and preventing splatters.

With these tips and tools from Two Pillars, you'll be cooking perfect rice every time!
